Doris Edwards Lewis, 91, of Roanoke Rapids died Friday, August 2, 2013.

Doris, a native of Roanoke Rapids, was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Iva Brewer Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Max Gardner Lewis, Sr.; her sisters, Edith Harris and Mary Edwards; her brothers, Daniel and Rudolph Edwards; and her daughter-in-law, Gail Lewis.

Doris was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their retirement years and was a member of Rosemary United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Max Gardner Lewis, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; grandsons, Brooks Lewis of Greenville and Brad Lewis of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Lucille Weiss and her husband, Bobby, of Roanoke Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Jim Bell officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 5, 2013 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, and other times at her son's home, 106 Valley Dr., Roanoke Rapids.
